With summer sliding away and fall showing it’s face it’s time to get off the beaches and back to work. After a few great months of Okanagan sun and fun, take some time to catch up with our members and their most recent endeavours, undertakings, excitements, and ideas! “At evolve design | build, we have some pretty cool stuff going on right now! Never been busier – and are so excited to play such a large role in the new BCIYSI Integrated Youth Services facility that will be opening in Kelowna (and four other places around the Province) in March 2017. evolve design | build have been appointed the Project Managers of this groundbreaking new space, by CMHA, a space that will finally integrate drug, alcohol and mental health services for our youth, ages 12-24. Coming together are Psychiatrists, Family Doctors and Nurse Practitioners, along with a multitude of the amazing Service Providers in our community, such as The Bridge, OK Boys & Girls Club, ARC, WorkBC, Living Positive, Interior Health and SO many more. All under one roof so our young people (and their parents) only have to tell their story once.

“It’s a busy time of year, which is great because I don’t have any time to cause any mischief or mayhem. Aside from client work, I’ve been hard at work preparing for the upcoming BizCamp (shameless plug) while also trying to build out some brand assets. I’m excited to be participating in the inaugural Convergent Studio mentorship program (convergent.studio), where I’ll be mentoring local artists as they explore the intersections between art and technology. And of course, a big part of my work recently has involved writing a series of business profiles for the Capital News/ Chamber of Commerce Women to Watch series. It’s amazing to see how many talented, energetic businesswomen there are in Kelowna – and to see the big differences they’re making in the community.”

“Lots has been happening for me! I’ve been staying very busy juggling freelance design work (I’m currently available for work!), OGO Carshare Co-op, and co+Lab, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Earlier in August OGO celebrated our third anniversary! With an awesome brunch from One Big Table it was great to have our members sit down and mingle with one another. A city is a community built on the relationships and interactions of smaller and smaller communities all the way down to the individual level. If we can make the days of our members by celebrating with a brunch, I like to think that we made Kelowna a bit happier that day.
On Sept. 8th I hosted the inaugural edition of Makers, Movers, and Movies. What MMM is is a monthly event where we will screen a documentary about an inspirational person, a nifty new technology, or exciting ideas followed by a discussion around the topic of the film. (As an aside, this event was directly inspired by Design Flicks which was previously run by John van der Woude, but I had wanted to broaden the scope to include more than visual art or design to encourage crossover between communities. Thanks for the inspiration John!) Anyhow, the film we showed was Steal This Film 2. The screening went well and there was great conversation around the legality, morality, enforcement, and social ramifications of copyright law, file sharing, and all that fun stuff. A huge thanks to our hosts at the Kelowna Art Gallery for being a fantastic venue to kick this off in! Stay tuned for news of our October screening which we will be talking about more later this week!
I suppose I should also give yet another plug for Feed Me Kittens. FMK is the half-demonic brainchild of Cam Brinson (a super rad Kelowna-based web designer) and I. We’ve got a bunch of new graphics on the shop and every shirt now comes in both mens and womens styles with like a bajillion different colour options. It’s cool, I swear. Everyone will be jealous of your shirts.”
